A 2021 recap:
January: Started my second semester of graduate school and signed on for a Ph.D. program
February: Art Technically Love Letters Project (Valentine’s Day cards for Meals on Wheels) 5th Anniversary
March: Represented Shelby County at Miss Tennessee USA
April: Got my COVID-19 vaccine!
May: Graduated with a Master of Science in Lighting at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and returned to my alma mater American University a year later to ‘graduate’ with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science; Auditioned for the New England Patriots cheerleading team and made it to 3rd round finals!
June: Won the Miss Memphis title in the Miss United States system
July: Fourth of July parades as Miss Memphis; Taught an astrobotany workshop at a space-themed summer camp in Atoka; Represented Memphis at Miss Tennessee United States and won the state title!
August: Started a Ph.D. program in Built Ecologies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
September: Turned 22 years old, debuted an Astrobotany lesson plan on Art Technically’s website, and delivered 27 Science Bears to the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.
October: Represented Tennessee at Miss United States and placed 2nd runner-up; Taught coding lessons at the Pink Palace Museum for Tennessee’s fifth annual STEAM Festival
November: Returned to the Miss America organization after a COVID-19 hiatus winning the Miss Franklin County local title; Won the Goldman Sachs’ $5000 STEAM short film challenge.
December: Delivered 30 scientist and artist dolls to the Le Bonheur and Vanderbilt children’s hospitals; collected 100 STEM children’s books for K-5 school libraries; and Watched Miss America in person in CT.
